Engineering another way.

The team that designed the breakthrough.

Why SCO2?

"It stinks" doesn't begin to describe the rot at a transfer station. Being knee deep in trash is a sensory assault — where the bacteria all around you seems to seep into every pore. And after showering, you still feel like you need to shower.

Humans are winning at waste.

Seeing truckload after truckload of food waste in landfills inspired SCO2's founders to help the world "be better." And it took their decades of industrial engineering experience to develop Nextract Technology, a breakthrough supercritical CO₂ extraction process, redesigned from the ground up. The goal? Process tons of biomass per hour in an optimal, green, automated way to recover high-value ingredients to put back in the food system.

Prevent waste in the first place.

The Nextract Technology breakthrough is not in the science. Supercritical CO₂ has been around since the 1970s, with an immense dataset of published research from scientists across the globe. Effective: yes. Efficient: no. And that's been the rub. The legacy tech does not scale cost-effectively. Long cycle times, a multitude of manual steps, specialized equipment, highly trained staff — all but guaranteed a cap on its potential.

“Nextract solves an important gap in our food system. It's an engine for powering the circular economy by wasting less, unlocking new economic value, and reducing our overall impact.”

We work with operators ready to unlock exponential growth from streams they currently dispose of — landfill, boiler fuel, animal feed. If that's you, we may be the key.
